New Coaching Hires And Recruiting Going Into Early Signing Period

New Coaching Hires And Recruiting Going Into Early Signing Period

Jim Leavitt has decided to remain at Oregon, so this podcast looks at some of the other options on the board for Florida State’s Defensive Coordinator spot. Also discussed are the new hires of Telly Lockette, Donte’ Pimpleton, and Raymond Woodie, how those hires help FSU on the recruiting trail, and what to expect from the early signing period. The episode wraps with responses to a few listener mailbag questions.

Also discussed in the show, the book Deep Survival, by Lawrence Gonzales.

My podcast episode discussing that book can be found here: https://www.booksoftitans.com/podcast/deep-survival/.

Not quite, though it doesn’t matter at this point since as of last night, that particular DC option has decided to stay put where he is.

Jason I’m on the road four days a week and I thoroughly enjoy your podcast. Keep up the good work.

Randy Sanders didn’t quite upgrade from FSU going to East Tennessee. His phone wasn’t ringing off the hook with opportunity. CSU for Charles Kelly isn’t an upgrade either. To insinuate his staff was desired by other Power 5 programs would be misguided. Taking a job at a lower level school doesn’t mean Jimbo’s staff had good coaches. I think Randy Sanders taking a job at East Tennessee and the rest following Jimbo proves that. In several years not one program poached an FSU coach. That says something.

The primary thing it says is that FSU sufficiently matched salary and other aspects of offers to keep the coaches programs tried to poach. You mention Kelly going to CSU as not being an upgrade, but it was only two years ago that Auburn offered him over $1mil per year to be their DC. The narrative that nobody ever tried to hire any of FSU’s assistant coaches is simply false.
